The Florence Community Band (FCB) is supported and sanctioned by the City of Florence, Kentucky, and other generous sponsors. It is dedicated to making a positive contribution to the musical environment of the area it serves
The band is a traditional community band made of amateur musicians from the surrounding communities, and we invite those who play or have played in a band instrument to take part. We are a wind band made up of brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments. We play a variety of music ranging from traditional marches, classic, to big band jazz. Our music will vary with difficulty, but will balance with the range of experience levels of our musicians. Our members vary in age from high-school, middle age, to seniors, and represent a wide variety of professions. Our common bond is love of band music.
We rehearse every Monday evening at 7:30 PM at the Florence Government Building on Ewing Blvd in Florence, KY
There are no auditions in our band. We have a wide range of ability levels in the FCB. We never have "Challenges" for seat positions. Each section works out its own order. Sections should swap parts among itself as ability and desire dictate. The director may make a change in part assignments if a change is needed.
We play about 10 performances a year, including a series of outdoor concerts at Presidents Park in Edgewood, and a Christmas program in the Florence Mall. In the winter months we play for out local senior and convalescent centers. Ensembles formed with in the band perform some of these.
